CODE BLOOM
"Each song seems to feel like an anthem being sung for some divine purpose."
-- Sue Ness, Jam Rag Music Magazine
It only matters that Brion Riborn (guitar/vocals) and Heatherlynn (bass/vocals) are from Garden City, Michigan if you're wondering where they park their van. They don't cling to any musical genre and they don't perpetuate the "Motor City Sound." Respectfully, they defer to rock's greater musical history, acknowledge it, have found inspiration from it, and interpret it in their own fresh and exhilarating style.
If comparisons are needed, it would be to the ranks of the self-motivated bands that consider music to be more of a calling than a hobby; a hope for
a future where the song that lies dormant in the heart of every person would awaken and resound in a glorious chorus of grandeur for all the world to hear.
In 1996, Code Bloom released their first CD, titled "du BarB
genbrodin", met with local acclaim. The band followed up their release with numerous performances at The Blind Pig, The Mosquito Club and Theodoors. CD sales were brisk due to touring, promotional giveaways and the addition of the single "Hidden Hero," which was added to rotation on scores of college stations including WHFR, WXOU, WDET, as well as 89X's The Homeboys Show and WIQB - Rock 103.
In 1998, Code Bloom released the follow up CD titled "Progeria" which aside from a stellar collection of radio ready material, contains tracks featuring sounds from
Brion's unique guitar creation, the Post-man.
"Progeria" has been described as "nothing short of superb". And sales of the album have reflected that.
But the music contained on these albums was dark. It seemed to cry out for a reason to existence, a place to belong, and an answer to the questions in a world plagued with pain and sorrow.
In 2000, the response came in the form of the CD titled “Nothing Yet”. A virtual 180 from the band’s earlier work, it contained hope, and the realization that having “nothing” isn’t so bad. It’s what you do with what you have that matters.
In 2002, Code Bloom released a 4 song demo with the title “Untitled 2002” that contains some of their best material to date. When this album is complete it will be a must have for any music lover.
Though Code Bloom rarely performs these days, they are a band not to be missed if you have the opportunity to see them. Each performance is an amazing musical experience that displays the thoughtful, passionate music that could only be known as Code Bloom.
"Code Bloom has a good sound. Foo Fighters sound like Foo Fighters, and Code Bloom sounds like Code Bloom."
